I-League 2020 champions Gokulam Kerala FC have signed talented young center-forward Beneston Barretto on a two-year contract. Gokulam Kerala management were tracking Beneston when he played for Guardian Angel SC in the GPL last season.
Born in Goa he practiced in the beach areas In the off-seasons, with a belief to get into big clubs. He gave trials at Kerala earlier this month.
Beneston began his career playing in the goalkeeper position at Dempo U14, Salgaocar FC, and then Sporting Clube De Goa in U-18 I-League.
After incurring a shoulder injury during his spell at the U-20 team of Churchill Brothers SC. He changed his field of play and transformed as a center-forward since his late father advised him to play at attacking dimensions.
Beneston also played for Vasco before he finally signed for the Guardian Angels SC.
Many crucial players have opted to part ways and have signed for the other clubs. Head coach of Gokulam Kerala FC is likely to replace key player Vincy Barretto who joined Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters FC.
After the departure of key players from last season, Beneston signing in the Gokulam Kerala FC will surely strengthen the attack.
Malabarians have already started their pre-season for the I-League 2021-22. It will be interesting to watch how Beneston performs when he is allowed to perform.
