Ahead of the upcoming I-league season 2021-22, RoundGlass Punjab FC have appointed Ashley Westwood as their new head coach. The former Englishman defender has signed a one-year deal with the club.

Westwood had already managed clubs in India and is well aware of the Indian football ecosystem. He joined Bengaluru FC in 2013 and led them to win the I-League title in his debut season in Indian Football. Next season Bengaluru FC finished second in the League. However, they won the Federation Cup that season. The following year Bengaluru FC once again lifted the I-League title under the guidance of Westwood.

He also served as the director of football at the Indian Super League club ATK. In 2018 ATK appointed him as the club’s interim coach after the sacking of head coach Teddy Sheringham.

RoundGlass Punjab FC was founded back in 2005 as Minerva Punjab Academy. Minerva Punjab have won the I-League title once during the 2017-18 edition. The club finished fourth on the league table last season under the guidance of head coach Curtis Fleming. However, the club re-established itself after owner Ranjit Bajaj sold the club RoundGlass Sports Pvt Ltd.

The signing of Westwood as the head coach at RoundGlass Punjab FC hints that the club aims to present quality football to its fans. With trophy-laden stints at Indian Clubs, Punjab FC will start the upcoming league in quest of their 2nd I-League title under their newly appointed head coach.
