AMBERNATH UNITED ATLANTA FC

Ambernath United Atlanta Football Club, or simply Atlanta FC, is an Indian professional football club based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It currently competes in the MFA Elite Division (a top division of the Mumbai Football League). Moreover, it also competes in the I-League 2nd Division.

History

A merger between Deepu K.’s Ambernath United and Allen Contractor’s Atlanta FC created Ambernath United Atlanta FC in 2022. Atlanta FC was playing in Elite Division before the merger. Meanwhile, Ambernath United was playing in local tournaments. Ambernath United Atlanta won the MFA Elite Division in their first year with a very dominant performance under coach Steven Dias. Meanwhile, he was the assistant coach of Odisha FC and interim coach of Jamshedpur FC, among others.

Women’s team and honors

Ambernath United’s women’s team plays in MDFA Women’s League, under the name Mumbai Knights FC.

Ambernath United Atlanta Football Club has won Domestic League MFA Elite Division two times. They won it in 2021–22, and 2022–23. Meanwhile, they have also been Harwood Champions League Champions once in 2021–22.

Stadium

The club’s stadium is Cooperage Ground in Mumbai. Cooperage Ground was the primary venue of the Rovers Cup. It is the third oldest football tournament in India after the Durand and Trades Cup. The stadium was occupied by the British Indian Army during World War I. In April 2011, plans were announced for the Cooperage Football Ground to be renovated. FIFA announced that they would give US$2 million to the Western India Football Association in order to renovate the stadium, leading to the decision. On 12 June 2011, it was announced in the Bombay High Court that the West India Football Association would be given the right to renovate it. Meanwhile, the capacity of the stadium is 5000.
