Tamil Nadu FA to take a second round of trials

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The Tamil Nadu Football Association has announced another round of football trials for the selection of the Santosh Trophy squad. Despite having conducted one trial in Loyola College on October 13-15 and announcing a list of 45 probables, another round of trials is going to take place on October 29-31.

With only one month remaining for the Santosh Trophy to commence, Tamil Nadu is yet to name its coach and squad for the tournament. The anticipation among the players does not seem to be on the brighter side of things. With the tournament fast approaching, the preparations for the competition have not even started for Tamil Nadu. Many club secretaries, former players, and fans have voiced their discontent over the entire situation.

Reports of unrest between Tamil Nadu Football Association and Chennai Football Association have come out. A contempt petition filed in court alleges that Tamil Nadu Football Association does not have the powers to select a team. Owing to this unrest, the players and the fans are in dismay. Indian football is at loss due to this unrest.

The TFA has asked the district secretaries for a list of potential players for the squad. The second round of trials will take place at Gateway International school, OMR from Oct 29 and 31.

“Selection trials for the first phase were held at Loyola college and about 45 players have been short-listed. The trials will be held from Oct 29 to 31. We propose to select another 20 players. In all, there will be 65 players across three categories,’’ – J Jesiah Villavarayar, president of TFA.

There is still no news on the coaching front from the TNFA. A conclusive announcement should be made soon since the competition is fast approaching.
