Thomas Muller speaks about his benching role after Leipzig clash

It looks like the competition is catching up with Bayern Munich’s legend Thomas Muller. A World Cup winner under Joachim Low, Muller is seeing his role getting decreased for the Bavarians. Since COVID and injuries disrupted Muller’s availability earlier this season, he hasn’t been as much of a fixture for Nagelsmann.

Youngster Jamal Musiala has taken over Müller’s spot at the Bundesliga Rückrunde. He was the one who won the start against RB Leipzig. For Muller, this is not his first benching, hence it won’t sink him. After joining the game after the 80th minute of today’s 1-1 draw away to Leipzig, the veteran seems to be settling in.

What did Thomas Muller say?

Thomas Muller said after the game:

“I‘m in good contact with the coach.”

“The important thing is that we win as a team. Everyone has to subordinate themselves to the team, that also applies to me, of course. Nevertheless, I’m hot for minutes.”

The 33-year-old has a knack for striking the right tone. Again, Muller is demonstrating excellent leadership both on and off the pitch. While the Muller fans are worried about his period on the sidelines, we can expect more Bayern success if everyone is rowing in the same direction.

Thomas Muller will be a part of it all for some time to come. In 2015, surprisingly Manchester United reportedly bid 100 million euros ($109 million) for Muller. He was famously mistaken for a ball boy by Diego Maradona following his Germany debut in 2010. However, it is unlike for the Bayern Munich legend to leave the club at the moment.
