Tottenham could have signed Richarlison replacement known as “monster striker”

Richarlison

Tottenham Hotspur embarked on the 2023/24 season under Ange Postecoglou’s leadership, marking a period of transformation. Despite the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern, Spurs commenced the season securing eight wins in their first Premier League matches. Postecoglou’s impact was evident as Spurs displayed signs of continual growth and regained their identity on the pitch.

TOTTENHAM COULD HAVE SIGNED IVAN TONEY

The January transfer window presented a crucial opportunity for chairman Daniel Levy to strengthen the squad. Priorities included bolstering the central defensive options, leading to the acquisition of Radu Dragusin from Genoa for £27m. Werner joined on loan from Leipzig to provide support in the absence of Son, who was in the Asia Cup.

Although the pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher proved futile, Spurs made a successful late move to secure the services of Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall from Djurgårdens IF for £8.5m. However, the failure to sign a center-forward remained a glaring gap in the squad.

Ivan Toney emerged as a prime target, but Tottenham, along with other Premier League clubs, were deterred by Brentford’s exorbitant £100m valuation. Toney’s return to form after a suspension showcased his prowess, prompting regrets within the Spurs camp for not pursuing the opportunity further.

While Son and Richarlison provided attacking impetus, Toney’s multifaceted playing style was seen as a potential game-changer. Declan Rice’s comparison of Toney to Kane underscored the striker’s impact potential. Toney’s statistics in progressive passes, interceptions, aerial duels won, and clearances highlighted his all-around contribution on the field.

Described as a “monster” by Brentford manager Frank, Toney’s addition could provide the final piece of the puzzle for Tottenham. Postecoglou recognized the importance of prioritizing Toney’s acquisition in the summer transfer window to enhance the team’s cohesion.

While Tottenham experienced success under Postecoglou, the failure to secure a forward in january left a void in their squad. The potential addition of Ivan Toney could elevate Spurs to new heights in their pursuit of success.
