About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Looking to complete their third signing of the summer, Tottenham Hotspur close in on Duje Caleta-Car of Marseille. The imposing Croatian was courted by West Ham United as well. However, it is Spurs who seem likely to snap up the defender.

A fee of around £20,500,000 is stated, with confidence that a move to Tottenham is quite possible.

With new manager Nuno Santo and super agent Fabio Paratici, a revamp is in progress. Tottenham have successfully secured Pierluigi Gollini from Atlanta and Bryan Gil from Sevilla. They now look to the defence where Toby Alderweireld’s anticipated departure could open up a vulnerability.

Either of Eric Dier or Davinson Sanchez seems likely to be offloaded. At least one, if not two, centre-backs would be necessary to partner Joe Rodon. If completed, Tottenham could greatly from the arrival of Caleta-Car.

The 24-year-old center-half spent the initial years of his career at HNK Sibenik, Croatia. He went on to have stints with FC Pasching, FC Liefering and RB Salzburg in Austria.

Caleta-Car then made a major-league transfer to Marseille in 2018, where he has steadily grown into one of the most dependable defenders in Ligue 1. During his time at Marseille, Caleta-Car has featured 91 times in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and setting up 6 more.

His performances got him called up to the Croatia national team. He has made 16 appearances so far, with 2 of them at Euro 2020.

Caleta-Car’s current contract continues till 2023. Marseille are facing financial turmoil. These factors could be a driving force to kick-off a possible move.
