Vasco Sports club are once again likely to get back to the National Football ecosystem and the second division League in the country I-league.
The Goa Football Association (GFA) had requested the top five clubs of the Goa Premier League to submit their interest to the I-League qualifiers before Saturday.
The All India Football Association (AIFF) reached out to the state associations to nominate two teams for the I-League qualifiers. As per the selection criteria, the champion of the state-level league will get the preference and advance to the qualifiers. If the league winner misses out to fulfill the licensing criteria then the second club will gain an advantage. And will participate in the qualifiers.
Three top clubs of the last season’s Goa Premier League Sporting Clube de Goa, Dempo SC, and Salgaocar FC have shown no interest to join the qualifiers. Vasco SC that finished fifth in the Goa Premier League have shown their interest to join the I-League. As they were relegated from the I-league in 2010.
Initially, GPL 2020-21 winner Sporting Clube de Goa have shown interest to participate in the I-League qualifiers. But later they withdrew their decision.
“We have submitted our bid before the deadline. Now it is up to the GFA to nominate us,”– said Vasco SC’s the director of Football Ravish Narvekar
Vasco SC were relegated from the I-league in 2010 and are keen to get back to 2nd tier League.
With other top Clubs from Goa Premier League not showing any interest in the qualifiers, Vasco SC will most likely get the chance to take part in qualifiers and proceed to the I-league.
