Villarreal have confirmed the signing of Boulaye Dia from French club Stade Reims.

Dia has arrived for an undisclosed fee on a five-year contract after passing his medical test. This will keep him at the Spanish top-flight side until 2026.

Dia was also linked with a move to West Ham United. The Hammers are in the market for a striker after Haller’s departure to Ajax. However, they narrowly missed out on Dia as he agreed a move to Spain.

A club statement reads: “Villarreal CF have reached a transfer deal with Stade Reims for French-Senegalese striker Boulaye Dia, who will wear yellow for the next five seasons. At 24, Dia has been one of the sensations of the top French championship, showing himself as a powerful, fast and skilled striker with the ball at his feet.”

Gifted with great speed, the African featured in 88 matches for the Red and Whites while smashing the net 28 times.

In the 2020-21 campaign, he made appearances in 36 Ligue games scoring 14 goals. However, Reims finished 14th in the league after scrounging 42 points from 38 outings.
